Our target is to commit £750 million by the end of 2009 and we have so far invested over half of this amount in more than 100 sites across the UK.
Assura Property has the financial resources to build large scale primary care facilities to accommodate a wide range of services and will forward fund the development of new premises where existing facilities are too small or expansion space is not practical.
In some cases, GPs may already have plans for new premises but may have difficulty securing funding or may be nervous about taking on the financial and organisational burden associated with new developments.
We are able to work with GPs and PCOs in these situations to help simplify matters and take on the financial burden whilst at the same time maintaining GP involvement in the project especially with the ongoing input into the planning and design of a new facility.
Assura actively seeks out areas of under provision or where the potential for primary care expansion has not been realised and is prepared to acquire land or buildings speculatively to develop new primary care facilities.
This alleviates some of the pressure on PCOs as we are willing to take a risk ahead of final funding decisions in order to speed up the delivery of new developments.
